Keen Vision: The Gary C. Werth's Collections
Judith and Adam Aronson Gallery
February 17th - July 16th, 2006

Keen Vision: The Gary C. Werths Collection opens to the public at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art on Friday, February 17, 2006. A complimentary reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues until 8:00. The exhibition will close July 16, 2006.

Keen Vision is the third in the ART STRUCK series, and features a modern bronze and contemporary glass sculpture collection gathered by Gary C. Werths, a now-retired St. Louis entrepreneur and businessman.

The Werths Collection features bronze sculpture produced by some of the most recognizable artists of the twentieth-century. Early and mid-century work by Jacques Lipchitz, Alexander Archipenko, Pablo Picasso, Gaston Lachaise and Alberto Giocometti is complimented by equally impressive contemporary bronze sculpture produced by Fernando Botero, Deborah Butterfield, Jim Dine and Kiki Smith.

The Werths collection also embraces the artistry of contemporary glass masters from the United States and Europe. The collection is particularly rich in the work of William Morris whose Canopic Jar: Buck (Antlers) 1992, is the featured image of the collection. Dale Chihuly, whose work is shown in a permanent exhibit at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art, is also well-represented. The work of European masters, including Lino Tagliapietra who is typically credited with translating glass crafting into a contemporary art form, is also well-represented. In addition to Tagliapietra, the exhibition features the work of Stanislav Libensky and Jaraslava Brychtová, and Janus Walentinowicz. Other artists featured include Harvey Littleton, Marvin Lipofsky, William Carlson, and Joel Philip Meyer.

The exhibition was conceived and organized by Petruta Lipan, senior university curator.

The Saint Louis University Museum of Art looks forward to welcoming the visiting members of the International Glass Artist Society who will be attending the annual G.A.S. Conference, Glass Gateways: Meet in the Middle, in St. Louis, June 15-17, 2006.
