Yingxue Zuo: Blend of Styles

April 15th through May 29th

Yingxue Zuo melds ancient techniques from his birthplace in China with those of contemporary Western practice. The Blend of Style exhibition features oil paintings that depict rural and industrial Chinese landscapes.

Zuo is driven by the intense urge to pursue a sense of evolutionary change and growth in his artwork, and considers the natural world as an infinite resource for his plein air style painting. He is inspired by the natural world, which he translates into works of art, ranging from sketches, oil paintings, woodblock prints, and Chinese ink paintings.

Yingxue Zuo has lived in St. Louis since 1990, and travels regularly to China, where he conducts tours and workshops. He is a professor in the art department at the St. Louis Community College at Forest Park.

Zuo holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin Province, China. His works have been exhibited throughout the United States and China, and are in a number of university collections, including Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville and Webster University, among others. His paintings are in the Bank of America collection, as well as the Central Fine Art Institute, Beijing, China.
