BBS Frequently Asked Questions
The Office of Admission offers this opportunity for conditional admission to applicants whose application shows promise but does not meet all expectations, often as it relates to test scores or grades.
What is the curriculum?
The curriculum consists of English, mathematics and interdisciplinary studies spanning the humanities, social sciences, applied sciences and research. The courses are complimented by interactive workshops and community-building activities.
How do I register for the program?
Submitting the $450 enrollment deposit secures a student's place at SLU, including the BBS program. A portion of the enrollment deposit ($200) is refundable for freshmen and new transfer students until May 1, 2014.
I plan to commute to SLU, do I have to live on campus for BBS?
Yes. BBS is a residential program, participants live on campus and the cost includes housing.
Do I need to register for housing, and, if so, how?
Yes. Students register for BBS housing through SLU's Housing and Residence Life website. The summer housing deposit is waived for BBS. In the housing application, select the dates that include BBS dates (7/27-8/18). Please complete the application as soon as possible. During the BBS program, students will live together in the same residence hall. On Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, students will move into their fall/spring residential living space.
What is the cost?
The cost of the BBS program is $2,800, which includes housing expenses, breakfast and dinner for three weeks.
How do I pay for the BBS program?
When paying the fee for the Billiken Bridge to Success program, students may pay the total amount due or pay in two installments (due June 1 and July 1) by choosing the summer installment payment plan through the "MySLU" portal. There will be a 1 percent installment plan fee added to your billing statement if you choose this option. In order to start the BBS program, students must pay in full by July 1.
Is financial aid available?
A limited amount of financial aid is available to assist with the cost of the BBS program. To be considered for financial assistance, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial aid awarded for the BBS program is separate from any financial aid awarded for the fall semester.
Do students receive college credit?
Students have the opportunity to earn six hours of college credit. However, all credit hours may not count toward all specific graduation requirements.
Is parking available for the summer?
Yes. All students must have a hang tag to park on campus. Hang tags can be purchased at the parking and card services office, located in DuBourg Hall, Room 33.
What is SLU 101?
SLU 101 is a two-day orientation program that all SLU freshmen attend. Students will meet their academic advisor and begin registration for fall classes. SLU 101 orientations conclude July 1.
