Who participates in the Billiken Bridge to Success Program?
Any first time freshman admitted to SLU may voluntarily participate in BBS. Also, the Office of Admission may require freshmen to participate as a condition of admission.
What is the curriculum?
The curriculum consists of English, mathematics and an courses spanning the humanities, social sciences, applied sciences and research. The courses are complimented by interactive workshops and community-building activities.
How do I register for the program?
Submitting the $450 enrollment deposit secures a student's place at SLU, including the BBS program. A portion of the enrollment deposit ($200) is refundable for freshmen and new transfer students until May 1, 2016.
I plan to commute to SLU, do I have to live on campus for BBS?
Yes. BBS is a residential program, participants live on campus and the cost includes housing.
Do I need to register for housing, and, if so, how?
No, there is no housing application for the BBS program.
What is the cost?
The cost of the BBS program is $2,800, which includes housing expenses, breakfast and dinner for four weeks.
How do I pay for the BBS program?
When paying the fee for the Billiken Bridge to Success program, students may pay the total amount due or pay in two installments (due June 1 and July 1) by choosing the summer installment payment plan through the "MySLU" portal. There will be a 1 percent installment plan fee added to your billing statement if you choose this option. All program fees must be paid by the end of the program.
Is financial aid available?
A limited amount of financial aid is available to assist with the cost of the BBS program. To be considered for financial assistance, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial aid awarded for the BBS program is separate from any financial aid awarded for the fall semester.
Do students receive college credit?
Students have the opportunity to earn six hours of college credit. However, all credit hours may not count toward all specific graduation requirements.
Is parking available for the summer?
Yes. All students must have a hang tag to park on campus. Hang tags can be purchased at the parking and card services office, located in DuBourg Hall, Room 33.
What is SLU 101?
SLU 101 is a two-day orientation program that all SLU freshmen attend. Students will meet their academic advisor and begin registration for fall classes. SLU 101 orientations conclude July 1.
