McNair Scholars Program

Made possible through a grant from the US Department of Education to Saint Louis University, the McNair Scholars Program, a component of the Trio programs of educational opportunity, seeks to prepare first-generation college students and students from groups underrepresented in graduate education to succeed in doctoral studies in preparation for teaching in colleges and universities. The McNair Scholars program offers participating students opportunities to prepare for graduate studies through:

  • Faculty mentoring
  • Preparation for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  • Assistance in searching and applying to graduate school
  • Participation in student and professional research conferences
  • Assistance in locating internships

In addition, each student is eligible to receive a $2,800 annual stipend towards the cost of research, travel, graduate school admission fees and summer living expenses.
