NHSC's Student To Service Loan Repayment Program

Are you committed to Primary Care and have eligible student loans? Consider the NHSC's Student to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP).

The S2S LRP is designed for Fourth year Medical students who are committed to primary care and have eligible student loans. If you are selected, you can receive up to $120,000 in loan repayment for committing to serve at an approved NHSC site full time for at least 3 years or half time for at least 6 years following the completion of a primary care residency.

You can receive a total of 4 payments that begin the summer after graduation and continue during the first 3 years of your residency. Loan repayment amounts are not taxable and you may request additional loan repayment through the regular National Health Service Corps Program after completing your required 3 to 6 years of service.

Service Requirement
After completing your residency you must engage in 3 years of full time (40 hrs. a week) or 6 years of half-time (20 hrs. a week) clinical practice at one or more of the NHSC-approved service sites located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) of greatest need. Service commitments must be completed in a clinical setting and must be for the duration of a minimum of 45 weeks a year.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled as a full-time student in the last year of school, attending a fully accredited school in an eligible degree program, and be planning to complete an accredited primary medical care residency in an NHSC-approved specialty (internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology and geriatrics).

Eligible Student Loans
Eligible loans include Stafford, Graduate Plus and Private/Alternative loans that were obtained for educational purposes. Residency Relocation loans, Private/Alternative and Grad Plus with a co-signer/endorser are not eligible.
