To apply for Saint Louis University School of Medicine scholarships we encourage all students to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) before the priority date of March 1. Using estimated tax information on the FAFSA to meet this priority date is acceptable. You can update the tax information on the FAFSA, preferably using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT), approximately 2 weeks after you have filed your federal tax return.
To maximize scholarship eligibility, we encourage all students to include parental data on the FAFSA.
For qualifying students, awards of $5,000 or $10,000 (requires parental data on the FAFSA) will be made. Award notifications of scholarships and other financial aid awards will be sent beginning after March 1.
VALIDATION PROCESS: Students receiving a $5,000 or $10,000 School of Medicine scholarship will need to complete the following Validation process prior to June 1 in order to confirm the accuracy of the FAFSA information and thereby finalize the amount of their award:
- Submit a completed Validation for Scholarship Consideration form SIGNED by the student and a parent.
- Update the student tax information on the FAFSA via the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) or provide a copy of the student/spouse (if married) 2015 Federal Tax Return Transcript.
- Update the parent tax information on the FAFSA via the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) or provide a copy of the parent/stepparent 2015 Federal Tax Return Transcript.
Students not providing parent tax information on the FAFSFA will not be required to update parent tax information on the FAFSA or provide the parent federal tax return transcript, but they will not be eligible for the $10,000 scholarship and may forfeit other aid opportunities.

DEADLINE TO UPDATE THE FAFSA AND PROVIDE COMPLETED VALIDATION INFORMATION IS JUNE 1.
Awarding of scholarships may extend beyond the priority dates based on the availability of funds.
RENEWING SCHOLARSHIPS: Students are eligible to receive the $5,000 or $10,000 university scholarship for up to 4 academic years. Awards will be automatically renewed and will NOT REQUIRE the completion of the FAFSA.
Returning students who have not received a university scholarship in the past will need to follow the steps as outlined above to apply for scholarship consideration. Students who received a $5,000 scholarship in the past but would like to apply for the $10,000 award will need to follow the steps outlined above and include parental data on the FAFSA. New awards for returning students will be awarded based on the availability of funds.
Students will, however, need to complete a FAFSA each year if they wish to borrow from the Federal Direct Student Loan Programs.
