New & Repeat International Programs

All International Programs sponsored by Saint Louis University should originate with faculty or staff and carry the endorsement of the appropriate departmental and college administrators. The Office of International Services welcomes and encourages early and informal consultation by faculty, staff, and academic units exploring International Program options. All International Programs will be reviewed by the Office of International Services. After initial review, completed program proposals will be reviewed and approved by the International Initiatives Committee and the Office of Academic Affairs. Any short term programs associated with the Saint Louis University Madrid campus will be approved by the Madrid administration.

International Programs include, but are not limited to, any international program of study, research, service or other University sponsored international experience. Please review the process to propose different types of International Programs and contact the Office of International Services to get started!

New Semester & Academic Year Study Abroad Program Proposal
Semester and Academic Year study abroad programs are programs in which Saint Louis University students study at a partner institution on a fee paying basis. Saint Louis University students pay a study abroad program fee, determined by the Office of International Services, and Saint Louis University then pays the partner institution. Grades for all SLU-approved study abroad courses will appear on a student's transcript and factor in to his or her cumulative Saint Louis University GPA.

New Exchange Partnerships
Exchange Programs are programs in which Saint Louis University students study at a partner international institution and, in exchange, students from the partner international institution study at Saint Louis University. These agreements are traditionally based on a one-to-one exchange within an academic year, with an exchange of students, but no exchange of funds. Saint Louis University students continue to pay Saint Louis University tuition.

Departments and Colleges that are interested in initiating new exchange partnerships should contact Dr.
Diana Carlin, Associate Vice President of Graduate Education and International Programs, dcarlin1@slu.edu, to discuss the possibility of a new exchange program.

New & Repeat Faculty Led Study Abroad Program Proposal
A short term faculty-led study abroad program is a program directed by a faculty member (or members) from Saint Louis University who accompanies students abroad. The academic program occurs outside the participant's home country with a duration length of 8 weeks or less. This type of program incorporates a strong academic component and provides an opportunity for students to receive 1-6 academic credit hours (dependent upon the length, content of the program, and departmental approval).
Please note that this proposal is required for both new and repeat programs. Repeat programs are asked to provide detailed information regarding any changes to the program from previous trips.

New & Repeat Non-Credit Bearing International Program Proposal
Non-credit bearing international programs include experiences that are not associated with a particular course and for which students do not receive Saint Louis University academic credit. When proposing this type of program, it is important to keep in mind that the international dimension must be relevant to the department's academic mission. While the program itself is academically relevant, students who choose to participate in such programs will not receive academic credit.
Please note that this proposal is required for both new and repeat programs. Repeat programs are asked to provide detailed information regarding any changes to the program from previous trips.
