Poitiers Study Center
Established in 1431, the University of Poitiers is the second oldest university in France and counts François Rabelais, René Descartes, and Francis Bacon amongst its former students. Highly regarded within France, the University of Poitiers provides 24,500 students a full range of quality courses in science, liberal arts, medicine, engineering, law, economics, and management. Poitiers provides a student friendly environment with the highest per capita student population of any city in France. Students can attend courses in the university's Centre de Français Langue Etrangère (CFLE) or enroll in regular university courses.
This semester or academic year-long, full-immersion program allows students to experience France and its culture firsthand. Students take classes in the French university system with French natives and other international students. You'll come back to SLU transformed by this charming country and its people.
View the admitted student program 2012-2013 handbook here! Please note that students will attend a thorough pre-departure orientation and are encouraged to invite their parents.
Students can chose between residence halls, host families (most popular) or apartments (single or shared), depending on their preferences. Students receive an allowance for meals and accommodations.
The semester option is designed for students with strong French proficiency who can take a combination of high-level language institute courses along with French university courses in a variety of academic areas. A set of 12-15 courses (both in the Institute and in the regular university) will be proposed to students and will include offerings in French language and culture, history, literature and archeology. Because the University of Poitiers is a comprehensive university with a broad array of academic specialties, on-site staff can assist students in selecting other suitable courses should they have interests in other areas. Fall semester students can elect to extend their stay for the entire academic year. Immediately upon course availability, students are instructed to contact their Academic department as well as the French Faculty Coordinator for the program regarding course approvals (per the Course Approval form).
