Study Abroad in Geneva, Switzerland
For those wanting to steep themselves in Old World History, Geneva has plenty to offer. Geneva was one of the earliest banking centers in Europe and the home of many free thinkers and dissidents. John Calvin fanned the fires of the Protestant Reformation from his pulpit in Geneva beginning in 1536; Jean-Jacques Rousseau was born here, and Voltaire sought refuge from his French critics here. A safe city of more than 186,000 people, Geneva is on the shores of the largest natural lake in Europe-Lake Geneva. The majestic panorama of the French Alps features the 15,800-foot Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in Europe and towering centerpiece for the area. Geneva is the historic center of international cooperation. The United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, the International Red Cross, the World Council of Churches, and many other international organizations are located here. Come to Geneva, there is much to explore!
Geneva Study Center
Webster University opened its first European campus in Geneva in 1978. Since its beginning, the Geneva campus has enrolled full-time students from more than 100 nations. Located in a park-like setting near the village of Bellevue, the international campus life is just seven minutes by train from the center city of Geneva. The secure and tranquil setting is a brief walk from Lac Leman and affords spectacular views of Mont Blanc. Campus facilities include classrooms, computer labs, a library, cafeteria, student center, and an on-campus bookstore. The University dedicated the academic buildings in 1992, providing students with a modern and excellent environment for learning. Administrative Offices remain in the lovely historic manor house. Downtown is an eight-minute train ride from campus, where students enjoy the annual music and film festivals, restaurants and clubs. Skiing, mountain climbing, sailing, and hiking are also very popular.
Webster Geneva's new on-campus dormitory boasts modern facilities and beautiful views of Lac Leman and the Swiss Alps. The housing provides access to campus facilities and is located a short distance from the local metro station. On-campus accommodations consist of shared bathrooms and kitchenettes, laundry facilities, in-room Internet connection, and access to the campus library, gym, and cafeteria. *Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional charge of $1000. If the on-campus housing is full, students will be placed in one of several Off-campus housing units located in central Geneva, which is generally a brief 8-minute train ride from campus. Students residing off-campus will usually have a private room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Some units will come equipped with in-room Internet access.
