Study Abroad in Puebla, Mexico
Located 80 miles southeast of Mexico City, Puebla is the capital of the state that bears the same name. With a population of 1.5 million it is a growing commercial and industrial center close to Mexico City.
Puebla was the one of the most important business centers of early Mexico, with important industries such as textiles, hand crafts and architecture. Referred to as the City of Angels, Puebla is home to several important churches and the site of the historical "Cinco de Mayo" battle against the French. Puebla is also close to interesting geographical features, near both an active and an inactive volcano.
The Puebla program is offered on the campus of Universidad Iberoamericana at Puebla. With more than 5000 students with approximately 1,000 faculty and staff available, this Jesuit university houses courses in all areas, including physics, chemistry, psychology, engineering, communications, architecture, design workshops, business and politics, among many others.
Host Family Option
Students are housed with Mexican host families in private residences. Students will share a room with another student. Also, included in the fee are two meals per day. This is an ideal setting for students who would like to improve their Spanish language skills.
University Dormitory Option
Students are housed in the university residence on campus in a double occupancy room. Meals are not included with this option. The residence will be equipped with a kitchen, or students may decide to purchase meals at the reasonably priced university cafeteria.
Most course taken at the Iberoamericana will be awarded four U.S. credit hours. (Most courses meets 68 hours per semester, four hours per week.) Course information is tentative and subject to change.
Study Option #1
- One Spanish course (optional but recommended): Students will enroll in an initial one-week intensive Spanish language program prior to the official start of the university semester, which will continue as part of the regular semester. The course will be offered at all levels of Spanish with a maximum of 15 students per class. Socio-cultural field study will be integrated into the curriculum.

Study Option #2
Students may directly enroll in courses at the university with the Mexican university students. Click here for a list of departments. Typically students will register just prior to departure and/or on-site.
The total cost of the program fees, including tuition, room, excursions (and meals with the host family option) per semester for the 2011-2012 academic year can be found here. All SLU financial aid and academic tuition scholarships will apply (athletic scholarships do not apply). In addition, a mandatory $250 international insurance fee per semester will be added to the student's account.

To seek admission, which is not guaranteed, a student must meet the following requirement(s):
- 2.5 GPA
- Two years of college Spanish for study option #2 , unless native speaker. (No Spanish required for study option #1)
- Sophomore or Junior
- Not be on academic or disciplinary probation
