Harbor Scene is a coastal scene with sailing vessels. The sky is brilliantly blue with large feathery clouds, and a rustic coastline frames numerous vessels in the water.

Petrus Johannes Schotel was born on 19 August 1808 in Dordrecht as the son of the famous maritime painter Johannes Christiaan Schotel (1787-1838). Like his father, he was drawn to painting maritime scenes.
