Cornoyer’s Paris Street Scene is displayed in the Mr. Cupples’ favorite room the first
floor library. In this particular work, Cornoyer employs the technique of plein-air painting to
capture the Paris scene. Dark figures walk in the neutral foreground and are framed against the
green foliage in the background.
Paul Cornoyer was born in Saint Louis, MO, and is known as an American Impressionist.
Impressionism was an art movement that began in France in the late nineteenth century. His work
is also shown in the collection of the Museum of the City of New York.
