The Scissors Grinder

David Teniers the Younger

David Teniers the Younger

Flemish, 1610-1690

Oil on Canvas

21-3/4 x 18-1/2 inches (55.2 x 47 cm)

Acquisition: Brought to Saint Louis University from Belgium by Peter De Smet, S.J.

The Scissors Grinder is originally from a set of twelve. Today, two are in the collection of Saint Louis University, nine are in Munich, and one’s location is unknown. Although there are figures on the right side of the canvas, the scissors grinder is the predominant image in the painting.
