REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:
Saint Louis University School of Social Work developed a 5-year program for students who would like to pursue both a Bachelors of Social Work (BSSW) and a Masters of Social Work (MSW). To be considered for the program, students must present a “B” or better in their undergraduate SLU Social Work courses and a cumulative SLU GPA of 3.0 or higher during their junior year at SLU.
Through the B.S.S.W/M.S.W. Accelerated Program, students begin to take Master’s level courses their senior year while still paying undergraduate tuition rates. This allows students to graduate the following May with a MSW degree. With careful planning, students can receive their BSSW in four years and their MSW in one additional year or three semesters.
This accelerated program provides students with a savings of time and money while earning two degrees. Students in the program take a Master’s level course during the fall semester of their senior year and two Master’s level courses during the spring semester. During the following year, Think 5 Social Work Scholars complete three or four more semesters of graduate level work (typically the summer, fall and spring) and graduate with a Master of Social Work.
APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM:
Students who meet the minimum requirements for consideration must begin planning with their social work faculty advisor by junior year (preferably freshman or sophomore year).
Students must meet all of the minimum requirements for admission to the MSW program, apply for admission in their junior year and submit the application by March 1 to begin taking MSW classes in the fall semester of senior year.
REMAINING IN THE PROGRAM:
BSSW students may enroll for a maximum of 6 hours of MSW courses in one semester and a total of 9 hours of MSW courses over two semesters during senior year. Students may not carry a total of more than 15 hours in total course registration for combined BSSW and MSW courses while taking MSW courses. Exceptions to this credit hour limit will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require approval of the BSSW and MSW Program Directors.
