It is an honor to serve as the Dean of SPS. I have been with the School for Professional Studies as a full-time faculty member since 2005, and during that time I have had the privilege of playing a small role in helping our adult students to achieve one of their dreams: the dream of an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Being a part of SPS is unlike being a part of a traditional academic unit. The students are often more deeply committed to their education, demonstrated over and over again by their high level of engagement inside both the physical and virtual classroom. They are here because they want to learn more, to grow more, and to achieve more. And we get to see that dream come true during our Pre-commencement ceremony, when these same students who have spent many sleepless nights preparing for an exam or finishing a paper, shed tears of joy when they walk across that stage in front of their spouses, parents and children.
I have a deep commitment to SPS and its students. In concert with our exceptional faculty and staff, my job is to ensure that SPS continues to be a premier educator of working students - both within St. Louis and across the globe. We build on the Jesuit tradition of excellence that is a hallmark of Saint Louis University to provide a strong liberal arts education within an adult, student-centered environment.
