BSSW Social Work Association
The Association aims to achieve the pursuit of truth for the greater glory of God and for the service of humanity. It is dedicated to leadership in the continuing quest for understanding of Gods creation, and for the discovery, dissemination and integration of the values, knowledge and skills required to transform society in the spirit of the Gospels. As an organization within a Catholic, Jesuit University, the pursuit is motivated by the inspiration and values of the Judaeo-Christian tradition and is guided by the spiritual and intellectual ideals of the Society of Jesus.
The Association speaks to the University and St. Louis community of the values and issues important to the students by: participating in community service opportunities, and supporting and providing educational experiences for the University
The Association aims to unify the student body by providing opportunities for interaction.
The Association serves as a liaison between the School and students by: electing representatives to student/faculty bodies, informing students about school business, and providing students a voice in issues.
The purposes is to promote an atmosphere conducive to social interaction among undergraduate social work students; to enhance the interaction of undergraduate social service students with other student groups in the University; to participate through student representatives in School of Social Work and University activities.
MSW Student Association
The Master in Social Work Student Association (MSWSA) serves to provide MSW students an opportunity for:
Participation in the development of programs and policies at the School of Social Work
Leadership within the School and in the larger University community
Socializing and Networking
The MSWSA is an integral part of the School of Social Work. The Director, faculty, staff, and MSW students rely on the MSWSA to provide student representatives to the committees of the school that deal with curriculum and program development, professional issues, hiring of new faculty, and the Center for Social Justice.
The MSW students rely on the association to represent their issues and interest to the larger University student association. The MSWSA allows students to not only have voice but also a vote on important issues that impact their professional and academic careers at Saint Louis University School of Social Work.
Additionally, the MSWSA provides support for students who wish to deepen their involvement in professional organizations and activities. Through the MSWSA Conference Scholarship program, students can receive financial assistance to attend conferences and workshops that are relevant to their professional interests. Conference Scholarship Applications are available here.
The MSWSA also provides support to students through sponsorship of small book scholarships and stipends that help students with the expenses of graduate education, and through sponsorship of many events that provide networking and socializing opportunities to students. New and continuing students in the MSW program are encouraged to contact the MSWSA to learn about ways to get involved in the many MSWSA programs offered each semester.
