MSW and Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies
The College for Public Health and Social Justie offers a dual degree in the Master of Social Work and Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies
This combined 80-hour program is offered in cooperation with the Aquinas Institute of Theology at Saint Louis University. Through a dual track of coursework and fieldwork, this program is designed to:
- Prepare students for professional social work practice while providing a solid foundation in theology, ministry, and biblical studies.
- Enable students to integrate the psychosocial, economic, political, and spiritual dimensions of societal and health care problems.
- Inspire students to serve individuals, families, and communities through social action for the common good.
The program provides the framework, skills, and resources for a spiritually sensitive social work practice while deepening professional commitment to social justice based upon the Gospels. The program also creates an opportunity for church ministers to obtain clinical professional licensure and develop micro and macro skills for community service.

The term dual degree means you will receive a degree from the School of Social Work and a degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology. Because you are receiving two degree(s) you must apply to each of the programs and be accepted by each program. You accomplish this dual degree through a structured course of study that allows for the sharing of credit hours between the two programs. Each dual degree has a set amount of required hours that are less than if you achieved these degrees as separate entities.
