Definition of MSW Generalist Practice Perspective in the Professional Foundation
Saint Louis University's MSW Program embraces a generalist practice perspective that uses the generic foundations of social work for viewing the social functioning of systems of various sizes, conducting a multidimensional assessment of people and their social environment, and thinking critically about the planned change process. This perspective facilitates evidence-based decision-making about what interventions best fit the situation, whether it calls for competencies of the advanced/specialized practitioner, and how he/she can provide leadership and needed expertise throughout the planned change process.
The generalist practice perspective, like generalist practice, emphasizes social work values and ethics with particular attention given to promoting social justice, valuing diversity, and upholding human rights. I
