Mary (Rina) Chittooran is a nationally certified school psychologist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Education. She has served as Chair of the department, as a University Faculty Fellow in Ethics, and during a recent sabbatical, as a Visiting Fellow at the University of London's Institute of Education. Before joining Saint Louis University in 1998, Dr. Chittooran was a UC Foundation Assistant Professor of School Psychology and Special Education at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga as well as Director of its School Psychology program and the Youth Educational Assessment and Research Center. She has also worked as a school psychologist in the Starkville School District in Mississippi.
Dr. Chittooran has provided consultation to a variety of international, national and local organizations and has served as program evaluator for an urban professional development school partnership, a new teacher mentoring program, and a university training program to develop technology competence among teacher educators and educator candidates. Her dissertation on expert systems and ADHD won the American Psychological Association's Outstanding Dissertation in School Psychology Award as well as the Jacob Kounin Memorial National Dissertation Award. Originally from India, Dr. Chittooran has also lived and worked in Scotland, Canada, Cyprus, and Malaysia.
