Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (accredited by ABET)
Overview: The Department offers a unique undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. The department provides a program that incorporates analysis, design and development of electrical and electronic systems, and prepares graduates for entry into the profession as productive and effective engineers, or graduate school.
Curriculum: The program coursework provides students with both breadth and depth in electrical engineering. The program develops in students the ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, the sciences and engineering to practical problems. It ensures that graduates have an opportunity to work on multi-disciplinary teams and to develop effective communication skills.
In addition to a strong focus on computer skills and computer software, the program provides a design experience that is developed and integrated throughout the program by introducing fundamental elements of the design process in coursework. The program also includes a two-semester design sequence to provide a meaningful, major engineering design experience that focuses on professional practice.
Careers in the Field: As an electrical engineer, there are a variety of career paths open to you including industrial or consulting positions, graduate school and professional schools such as law, business administration or even medicine. Our graduates have found employment at such companies as Boeing, Rockwell, US Air Force, Tellabs, Emerson Electric, Southwestern Bell and General Motors.
About the Faculty: The department enjoys the services of dedicated faculty with diverse backgrounds in various fields of electrical and computer engineering. Lectures and laboratories are conducted by the department faculty.
Internship Opportunities: Summer internships and Cooperative Education Programs are available and encouraged with local as well as national industries. Independent study on an electrical engineering topic can be arranged under the direction of a faculty member. Teaching assistantships are available for the advanced undergraduate. These may involve assisting a faculty member in a course or laboratory.
Research Opportunities: Undergraduate students are encouraged to seek research opportunities with department faculty. The department and funded research grants provide stipends in recognition of the importance of research activities at the undergraduate level. Summer research opportunities exist within the department and other leading research universities.
