Saint Louis University Physical Therapy Degree OverviewSaint Louis University offers a freshman-entry physical therapy program that allows students to complete their undergraduate and graduate degree in six years. SLU was among the first Jesuit institutions to offer a degree in physical therapy and is one of the top programs of its kind, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Once accepted into the PT program at SLU, you will progress through the entire program without the need to reapply or take a graduate entrance exam, provided you meet the program's academic and professional behavior standards. At the conclusion of the program, you will have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
What You'll Learn in SLU's Physical Therapy ProgramSLU's physical therapy program is divided into two portions. During your first three years, you will complete the pre-professional phase. The professional phase takes place over the next three years. This progression provides a seamless entry from foundational coursework to practical labs and clinical experiences.
During the professional phase, you will enroll in coursework specific to the PT profession and complete 40 weeks of full-time clinical internships. Students begin their clinical experience in the fall of the senior year with a half-day clinical. Elective courses in the physical therapy curriculum and clinical exposure offer you advanced knowledge and skills in specialty areas.
What Can You Do With a Physical Therapy Degree from SLU?Graduates in SLU's PT program report a 100 percent employment rate. After graduation, students must pass the National Physical Therapy Examination to obtain a license to practice physical therapy. The three-year average (including the classes of 2011, 2012 and 2013) of SLU physical therapy graduates who pass the National Physical Therapy Examination is nearly 99 percent.
