Guidelines for preparing the Professional Statement:
The professional statement informs the Student Affairs Committee of the applicant's background and professional goals. This is also as an indicator of the applicant's writing ability and helps the Student Affairs Committee acquire a broader understanding of the applicant. The content and the quality of the composition will be used to judge the applicant's preparedness for graduate school. (The statement must not exceed three type written pages.) Following review of admissions materials, an on-site writing sample may be required. These questions are guidelines in preparing the professional statement:
At a minimum, three Reference Letters are required from persons who are capable of speaking in depth about his or her relationship with the applicant. Whenever possible, two should be from a current or previous professor who is familiar with the applicant's academic performance.
If the applicant has been out of school for a length of time, other work related experience and or professional references are acceptable.
Friends and family members may not be references.
Applicant will identify who he or she selects as their references in the application form. An email request will be sent to the references. Once the reference has completed the request, the reference form will be uploaded to the applicant's admissions file.
An official transcript of all undergraduate and previous graduate work must be submitted to the Graduate Education office. These transcripts must be received in a sealed envelope with the Registrar's seal on the flap of the envelope. If the applicant is attending school when he/she applies for admission, a transcript showing course work up to the semester prior to application must be submitted. A final transcript indicating the major and degree conferred must be submitted immediately after graduation.
A personal interview is required either in person or by telephone. Please call 314-977-2722 to schedule a time with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions.
A minimum score of 580 is required on the TOEFL. Official test scores must be submitted with the application.
