Overview: The Political Journalism certificate is a cooperative program of the Departments of Communication and Political Science. It is open to all majors. The certificate includes areas of study in editorial writing, politics, news and essay writing and public administration. It draws upon aspects of Communication and Political Science in order for students to develop a sound foundation.
Curriculum: The certificate consists of 15 hours in each department, plus 12 hours in related areas other than Communication or Political Science.
Faculty: Both the Communication and Political Science faculty represent strong scholars in their fields. Their combined intelligence and teaching experience make earning the certificate an integrated, educationally stimulating experience
Internships: An internship provides that important bridge between your academic and professional worlds, and makes the transition much easier. All the internship sites listed have been approved by the internship program director. Take advantage of the opportunity an internship offers. Not only will you gain three hours credit in your career emphasis - you will be adding considerable value to your resume.
Careers: Graduates of the Political Science department undertake a variety of activities once they leave SLU. Some engage in further study: studying law, international affairs, urban planning, and many other subjects. Department graduates work in government, business, and non-profit organizations both in the United States and abroad.
