Cytotechnology is a field in which the cytotechnologist examines, under a microscope, cellular samples from various body sites to identify pre-malignant and malignant cell changes. Microorganisms and viral agents can also be identified. The cytotechnologist works closely with the pathologist to reach a diagnosis on the cellular samples submitted for evaluation.
