Teaching: Dr. Mills is currently teaching in the PhD and DNP programs. For over 15 years, he taught courses in nursing administration and nursing informatics.
Administration: Dr. Mills designed, developed, and coordinated with the faculty and staff the successful implementation of Web-based, multimedia, and interactive courses that lead to a Master of Science in Nursing or a post-master's certificate for nurse practitioner tracks and clinical nurse specialist/case manager tracks. As the coordinator of computer-based learning, Dr. Mills oversees online students across the United States and several countries. He has published and lectured nationally and internationally on the School's program.
He was the project director of a HRSA Division of Nursing grant, "Enhancement of Dual Option PhD Program" (# D09HP02735-01-00) funded for $512,489 from 2003-2007. Dr. Mills co-directed with Dr. Cordie Given Reese a HRSA competitive continuation grant for "Family Nurse Practitioner Education: Distance Learning via the World Wide Web" (# 5 D24 NU 00559-05) funded for $501,517. He has secured funds for graduate students to participate in the HRSA Nurse Faculty Loan Program and the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program.
Research: Dr. Mills received the 2006 Margretta Madden Styles Award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for his research, "Effects of Magnet Hospital Designation on Patient Outcomes." He has published research using large national databases, including the comparison of practice patterns of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Professional and Scholarly Activities: Dr. Mills is a member of the the Midwest Nursing Research Society.
