Teaching: Margaret has been teaching at the School of Nursing since 1992. During that time she taught the undergraduate traditional option adult medical surgical content; and, clinically supervised students in critical care units. More recently, Margaret is teaching in the master's nurse practitioner program and is responsible for the theory content related to health assessment and clinical decision making, principles of practice management , clinical management courses, and clinical supervision of the nurse practitioner students. Prior to coming to Saint Louis University, Margaret taught at Texas Christian University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Antelope Valley College.
Practice: Margaret is certified as an adult nurse practitioner. As such she works two and a half days a week in the Parkview Clinic, with the Saint Louis Housing Authority seeing elderly and disabled clients. She has previously worked as a nurse practitioner at the Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive health Center and the Saint Patrick Center Health Clinic. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Margaret worked as a cardiovascular clinical specialist at Saint Louis University Hospital and in the ER, ICU.
Professional and Scholarly Activities: She is a active member of several state and national nursing organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau International (Officer), American Nurses Association, Missouri Nurses Association, Saint Louis Nurses in Advanced Practice, American College of Nurse Practitioners American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, Chairing the Distance learning Special Interest Group (NONPF)
Margaret has attended a variety of nursing educational events both nationally and internationally and coordinates the Annual Advanced Practice Nursing Conference and Workshops at Saint Louis University School of Nursing. She also has been employed as an expert and testified in numerous cases involving nursing issues.
In 2012, Margaret was appointed by Governor Jay Nixon as the first nurse in the State of Missouri to the Missouri Health Net Oversight Committee. Margaret also received a commendation award for volunteerism from President Obama for service to the community.
