Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Kauffman is the chief legal officer for Saint Louis University and serves as secretary to the board of trustees.
As the chief legal officer, Kauffman is responsible for the provision of all legal services to the University, its officers, directors, administrators, faculty and staff. The office provides legal advice and counsel on the broad spectrum of legal issues that arise in the operation of the University. The office is also responsible for engaging the services of outside law firms for specialized legal needs, and for the coordination and supervision of their work.
As secretary to the board of trustees, Kauffman is responsible for staffing the board of trustee meetings, recording of minutes, and keeping safe custody of the seal of the University.
The department of public safety, diversity and affirmative action, emergency preparedness, environmental safety and services, research compliance, and risk management all report through the vice president and general counsel.
