Dr. Christopher Witko, Associate Professor of Political Science at Saint Louis University, joined the department in 2007. His teaching and research focuses on American politics and public policy. Effective July 1, 2010, Dr. Witko serves as Director Graduate Studies in Political Science.
Education and Background. Dr. Witko developed an interest in politics growing up in Albany, the capital of New York. He received his undergraduate degree from Plattsburgh State, in the cold, far reaches of upstate New York. He earned a master's degree from State University of New York at Albany and received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003.
While pursing his education, Dr. Witko gained experience working for the New York State Senate and the Suffolk County (N.Y.) Department of Labor and has volunteered for several political campaigns over the years. He came to SLU after four years at California State University, Sacramento. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, read history, play and watch sports, cheer for the Billikens, and leave inflammatory posts on political blogs.
Teaching. Dr. Witko teaches courses in American politics, including courses on the legislative process and parties and interest groups. He also frequently teaches the undergraduate research methods course.
Research. Dr. Witko's research focuses on American politics and public policy, including the role of money in American politics. His articles have appeared in many journals, including the American Journal of Political Science, American Politics Research, Political Research, Quarterly, The Review of Policy Research, Social Science Quarterly, and State Politics and Policy Quarterly.
