Health information drives the health care industry. Whether searching medical databases for the latest treatment, assessing the quality of care provided to patients, managing healthcare costs or influencing legislative issues, health information management is at the heart of health care.

Program Job Placement
You know how frustrating it is when your Facebook app crashes? Imagine if you were a medical provider and your program crashed in the middle of a patient's procedure. I work at Epic as a software tester and it's my job to make sure that doesn't ever happen. Epic provides medical software to many of the most renown healthcare organizations across the world, Saint Louis University included. Knowing that I can directly impact so many lives keeps me as excited about my career here as the day I started. My responsibilities and projects change frequently, so the wide range of courses offered by the HIM department, from Medical Terminology to VB Basics, have proved invaluable to me since graduation. I'm thankful to SLU's HIM program for introducing me to Epic, and for giving me a solid foundation to understand the importance of my work here!
Anne C. Schwartze, RHIA, CPC
After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the HIM program in December of 2014 I was accepted a position as a Physician Billing Auditor in the Office of University Compliance at Saint Louis University. Although I was already equipped with my CPC, the HIM program opened up a whole new world that expanded my knowledge and helped me excel my career. The program has given me the advantage of being educated in updated and modernized information surrounding the hottest healthcare areas of interest such as the new healthcare laws and reform, the electronic health record, quality improvement initiatives, data research and analysis.
