This program is designed to provide alternative method of conflict resolution in which students depend on each other to resolve conflicts ranging from roommate disputes to larger scale conflicts that could be adjudicated in a conduct hearing.
Mediation is an alternative that results in no formal conduct record or any outcomes/sanctions being applied. Students can feel empowered to effect change in their own relationships, acquire life skills in communication and empathy and express themselves in healthy and productive ways.
Student mediators receive training by a practicing attorney and mediator who is also a faculty member at the School of Law and Director of the Law School's mediation clinic. Student mediators meet on a regular basis with their advisor to review cases and receive ongoing information and training throughout the year.
