Volunteering is a great way to grow as an individual and serve others. Volunteering can give you hands-on practice in patient care but non-clinical volunteering is important as well, as it shows a commitment to service.
As a student in pre-professional health studies, you should take advantage of the many health care-related and non-health care related volunteer opportunities available through Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED)/Pre-Health Club. This organization offers two ways to volunteer: Special Service Projects and Continuous Service Experiences. A Special Service Project might be helping with a blood drive, for example. Continuous Service requires weekly volunteering in a hospital, clinic, nursing home or similar setting. This type of experience is especially important for students applying to medical school.
