Research projects involving human subjects require review and approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). An IRB is an ethics committee composed of scientists and non-scientists who serve as advocates for human subjects in research. The IRB is charged with the responsibility of reviewing and overseeing human subjects research conducted under the aegis of Saint Louis University.
Saint Louis University has established 3 IRBs (2 with regular meetings and 1 ad hoc) to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of Saint Louis University.
