As a freshman and sophomore Medical Scholar, you'll take the same sequence of courses recommended for students in the regular pre-medical curriculum, unless you major in biomedical engineering, physics, biochemistry, or electrical engineering (bioelectronics track).
Medical Scholars must complete one math course in residence. The minimum math requirement is completion of Math 142 - Calculus I.
As a junior and senior Medical Scholar, you must complete lectures and laboratories in physics (organic chemistry for BME majors) and take an upper-division science course fall and spring semester selected from an approved list. These are science courses relevant to a medical school curriculum.
Advanced Placement and 1818 ACC/dual credit from high school may apply to courses in this curriculum; however, 60 semester hours must be completed in residence at Saint Louis University. AP credit and 1818 ACC/dual credit for biology, chemistry, and physics are NOT accepted for Medical Scholars. These courses must be taken at Saint Louis University. You will be allowed to make substitutions only with approval.
Medical Scholars must complete an undergraduate degree at Saint Louis University with a major chosen from those available within the College of Arts and Sciences, the Doisy College of Health Sciences (investigative medical science, health information management, health sciences and athletic training-exercise science track only), Parks College (biomedical engineering, electrical engineering bioelectronics track only) or the School of Public Health (public health, and health management). Students coming in with enough credits may be able to fit a major from the Cook School of Business into their undergraduate degree. Students consult with our academic advisors early on to make sure they can fit in all of their major, core, and Scholars course requirements.
Any change in the Medical Scholars curriculum requires the specific approval of the Director of Pre-Professional Health Studies and the School of Medicine.
