As a freshman and sophomore Medical Scholar, you'll take the same sequence of courses recommended for students in the regular pre-medical curriculum, unless you major in biomedical engineering, physics, biochemistry, or electrical engineering (bioelectronics track).
Medical Scholars must complete one math course in residence. The minimum math requirement is completion of Math 142 - Calculus I.
As a junior and senior Medical Scholar, you must complete lectures and laboratories in physics (organic chemistry for BME majors) and take an upper-division science course fall and spring semester selected from an approved list. These are science courses relevant to a medical school curriculum.
Advanced Placement and 1818 ACC/dual credit from high school may apply to courses in this curriculum; however, 60 semester hours must be completed in residence at Saint Louis University. AP credit and 1818 ACC/dual credit for biology, chemistry, and physics are NOT accepted for Medical Scholars. These courses must be taken at Saint Louis University. You will be allowed to make substitutions only with approval.
At this time, the following majors are approved for Medical Scholars: Any major in the College of Arts & Sciences (excluding Communication Sciences and Disorders); Investigative Medical Science, Exercise Science-Athletic Training track only, Health Sciences and Health Information Management in the Doisy College of Health Sciences; Biomedical Engineering and the Bioelectronics track of Electrical Engineering in Parks College; Health Management and Public Health in the School of Public Health. If a student wants to choose a major outside of these options the student must discuss this with the Director of Pre-Professional Health Studies and receive their approval. Please visit the Program requirements for your entering class for further information.
Any change in the Medical Scholars curriculum requires the specific approval of the Director of Pre-Professional Health Studies and the School of Medicine.
