Safety and Security
For our patients' peace of mind, the SLUCare Doctors Office Building employs a full-time on-site safety officer, who can respond immediately to any problem in the facility via an emergency pager that clinical and other employees can call. In addition, all front desk positions that interface with the public and locations where money is handled are equipped with "panic buttons" that simply have to be engaged in an emergent situation.
The Doctors Office Building is also outfitted with lifesaving automatic external defibrillators, one on each floor. By 2010, all SLUCare sites will have AEDs.
Special red phone have been installed in all non-clinical areas where there are normally are no nurses and doctors. Departments such as Medical Records, Administration and Registration can simply pick up the red phone receiver if a patient emergency occurs. The red phones ring directly without dialing to a triage center that is always staffed with nurses who can respond immediately.
In addition, the exterior grounds of the Doctors Office Building and Saint Louis University Hospital are now smoke-free. While sometimes difficult for our smoking friends to become accustomed to, the overwhelming response from patients, faculty and staff has been positive.
