Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is education for ministry. Through supervised theological reflection upon one's role as a hospital chaplain, CPE tests and develops skills for ministry.
Specifically, CPE brings theology students, clergy and qualified laymen and laywomen to pastoral encounters with persons dealing with crisis, illness, loss, ethical dilemmas, death, etc.
The Jesuit tradition of Saint Louis University inspires and guides the CPE program at Saint Louis University Hospital. This relationship enriches the CPE Center at Saint Louis University Hospital with a unique and distinct Ignatian values.
