Overview: These certificates aim to help students understand fundamental social problems such as poverty, injustice, or war, in order to be better prepared for work to promote social justice. The certificates attend to similar phenomena, but they approach them from different perspectives and tend to frame problems at different levels of analysis.
The Peace and Social Justice certificate has a stronger focus on peace and peacemaking and conflict resolution. The Global and Local Social Justice-Power, Society, Culture certificate focuses more on analysis of systemic and structural causes of injustice and war and aims to prepare students to engage social and political institutions to promote social change.
Curriculum: Both certificates are interdisciplinary.
Careers: The social justice certificates are designed for students who are interested in careers in politics and social policy, and students who hope to become social workers, ministers, diplomats, health professionals or community activists.
