The goals of the Department of Educational Leadership and Higher Education are generated through a firm commitment to its philosophy statement:
- To prepare reflective practitioners committed to excellence in service to others.
- To instill four "habits" within our students: the habit of service, the habit of inquiry and research, the habit of self-examination and reflection, and the habit of leadership within a community of scholars.
- To offer students an excellent professional education and a sound background within a liberal tradition of education.
- To reaffirm and strengthen a commitment of service to the community.

Application Review Process: The program has a year-round, rolling application process that is reviewed by committee
The program draws from a large pool of qualified applicants

Educational Leadership is the largest Graduate Education program
Higher Education is the second-largest Graduate Education program
Rankings/Honors: All programs are nationally accredited. Nearly 20 percent of all of Missouri's superintendents are alumni of the Graduate School at Saint Louis University.
Credit Hours/Coursework: A minimum of 32 hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Successful completion of a one-hour oral examination at the conclusion of the student's coursework. A five-page paper detailing the student's philosophy of education must be submitted prior to the oral examination. In addition to the above requirements, the student must adhere to all university regulations stipulated in the General Bulletin. | Master of Arts Program of Studies

Scholarships & Financial Aid: Six (6) assistantships are awarded in Educational Leadership and Higher Education. Almost all students are part-time with full-time, professional positions. | ELHE Graduate Assistants page | Student Financial Services at SLU
Program Highlights: Teachers already participating in the 1818 Advanced College Credit Program can receive tuition remission. Typically, the investment return for a student is realized after two promotions.
