Periodontics | Master of Science in Dentistry
The Center for Advanced Dental Education (CADE) offers advanced dental education in the areas of Endodontics, Periodontics and Orthodontics that prepares students for specialty practice and satisfies the education requirements of the respective specialty boards. A Certificate of Proficiency and Master of Science in Dentistry degree are awarded after the completion of all requirements of the respective specialty program. Other programs, including postdoctoral fellowships and other special course work for non-degree and non-certificate students, may be provided in special circumstances.

Applicant Criteria: A committee examines and reviews the applicant and application wholly.
Periodontics Application Review Process: Promising applicants are invited for on-site interview in August and September.
Admission Statistics: Three residents are admitted to the program each year.

Credit Hours/Coursework: The Center for Advanced Dental Education at Saint Louis University offers a three-year program in the specialty of Periodontics that leads to a certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry degree. The program is offered in close affiliation with Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. Program Description: The program consists of clinical and didactic training on the graduate level in the specialty of Periodontics. The program is thirty-six months in duration and starts on or about July 1 of each year. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Following completion of the program, graduates are educationally qualified for certification by the American Board of Periodontology.
Career Possibilities: Our goal is to prepare the graduate to pursue a career of many possibilities: as a clinician with a practice limited to periodontics, as a researcher, or as a teacher of periodontics.
Curriculum & Program Details: Instruction in the basic sciences at the postgraduate level is designed to provide broad and in-depth knowledge concerning the human form beyond that learned in dental school. | Core Curriculum
About the Periodontic Faculty: The periodontics faculty is composed of three full-time and nine part-time faculty. Six are certified as diplomats of the American Board of Periodontology. All of the faculty have private practice experience. This group of individuals brings extensive teaching experience and a commitment to advanced graduate education. In addition, many faculty from other departments at both Universities participate in both core curriculum and discipline-specific courses. | CADE Directory

Program Highlights: The didactic and clinical portions of the program are conducted at two Universities, Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. The clinical portion of the curriculum encompasses all aspects of periodontal treatment including, but not limited to, non-surgical therapy, hard and soft tissue resective and regenerative surgery, implant surgery, ridge augmentation procedures, occlusal therapy, conscious sedation, periodontal plastic surgery and maintenance therapy.
