Paul J. Hauptman, MD
Professor, Department of Health Management and Policy (Secondary) Professor of Medicine and Director of the Heart Failure and Transplant program at Saint Louis University Hospital
Dr. Hauptman is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Heart Failure and Transplant program at Saint Louis University Hospital. He currently has a secondary appointment as Professor, Health Management and Policy, at the School of Public Health.
Dr. Hauptman received his MD degree from Cornell University; completed his medical residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School; and completed general cardiology and heart failure/transplant fellowships at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York) and Brigham and Women's Hospital respectively. Prior to coming to Saint Louis University, Dr. Hauptman was on faculty at Harvard Medical School.
He currently serves as an associate editor of the European Journal of Heart Failure and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiac Failure and the Journal of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He has received grant funding from and has served on American Heart Association and NIH study sections. At present, he is also the chairman of the Care Standards Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America.
His research interests are focused on outcomes assessment in advanced heart failure using large data bases. In addition, he is interested in physician decision-making and end-of-life issues in heart failure.
