Neurology, Psychiatry Grand RoundsEvent Details: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., January 13
The department of neurology and psychiatry will host Grand Rounds for both divisions from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the School of Medicine, Schwitalla Hall, lecture hall 1.
Entry to the Medical School is only through the Learning Resource Center (LRC), 3544 Caroline Mall, 63104.
Tracy D. Gunter, M.D., will present a lecture, required for both divisions, entitled "Informed Consent and Medical Decision-Making in Adults."
Gunter is associate professor of psychiatry in the department of neurology and psychiatry and holds a secondary appointment in the School of Law.
She is board-certified in general and forensic psychiatry. She earned her medical degree from the University of South Carolina, where she also completed forensic psychiatry training.
Following training, she rose to the position of director of the forensic evaluation service for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and earned the University of South Carolina Neuropsychiatry Department Chairman's Excellence Award for her work with the forensic psychiatry program. She relocated to Iowa City in 2003 as director of forensic psychiatry at the University of Iowa's Carver College of Medicine.
While in Iowa, she completed graduate studies in research methodology and developed research studies focused on antisocial personality and substance use disorders. She has presented and published extensively in the areas of behavioral genetics and forensic psychiatry.
Gunter has performed numerous forensic evaluations and provided testimony in civil and criminal matters involving adolescents and adults. Her current areas of clinical interest include civil commitment and guardianship, risk assessment and psychiatric disability.
