Noted for Student Service, Jay Haugen Has Worked at SLU for 13 Years
Following a national search, Saint Louis University has appointed Jay Haugen University registrar, overseeing academic records and registration.
Haugen joined the University in 1997 and most recently served as director of enrollment management information systems. In that role, Haugen standardized the reporting for academic advisers and helped improve processes for transfer students, among other accomplishments.
Though his work involved endless amounts of data, according to Cari Wickliffe, assistant vice president of the division of enrollment management and director of student financial services, Haugen never lost sight of those he was really serving.
"Throughout his career at SLU, Jay has always demonstrated a deep commitment to student service," she said.
Haugen knows what it's like to be a SLU student going through the University's registration and other administrative processes.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University in 1997. (Years later, he took advantage of the tuition remission benefit to obtain his MBA.)
In addition to his duties in the enrollment management division, Haugen has served on numerous University-wide committees as well as the graduate education transition team — efforts that afforded him opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff from every corner of the campus.
And that's important, Haugen said, because the registrar needs to have relationships with the entire campus.
"I've had the unique experience of working directly with almost all of the divisions of this institution," Haugen said. "I'm really looking forward to creating even more positive relationships in my new role."
