Institutional Accreditation Self-Study Forums Scheduled
In October 2009, Saint Louis University officially launched its institutional continued accreditation process with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). Since that time, more than 100 SLU community members have been working on an extensive University-wide self-study themed "Magis: Advancing Mission into Saint Louis University's Third Century." Ultimately, their efforts will result in the issuance of a detailed report addressing the HLC's five categories of criteria by which SLU will be evaluated, i.e.,
- Mission and Integrity
- Preparing for the Future
- Student Learning and Effective Teaching
- Acquisition, Discovery, and Application of Knowledge
- Engagement and Service
From April 22-25, 2012, SLU will host an HLC team of 10-15 consultant-evaluators who will review the self-study report and interview representatives of all of the University's stakeholder groups. This team then will prepare a report containing its own findings and recommendations. Following review by additional HLC entities, HLC will take formal action (e.g., recommending continued accreditation for SLU).
Over the past year, each of the HLC criteria has been the focus of a SLU subcommittee whose initial tasks include the identification and development of potential content for the self-study report. As one of several opportunities for the University community at large to provide input into the self-study process, proposed topics related to each criterion will be shared at a series of 10 open fora this spring. Additional details about the topics will be announced in Newslink and posted on the SLU self-study website several days prior to each session. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend and actively participate in these events.
Stay attuned to Newslink for periodic FAQs and updates about the accreditation self-study process throughout the semester.
