The SLU department of pediatrics will hold its fifth annual Pediatric Science Days and Research Symposium Thursday and Friday, Feb. 24-25.
The mission of Pediatric Science Days is to bring together multi-disciplinary basic science, translational and clinical/epidemiological/ethical investigators working in pediatrics-related areas from all campuses across the University.
The research will be showcased at an all-day research symposium involving trainees at various levels: students, residents, fellows and faculty. In addition, we typically host a nationally-recognized research visiting professor, who shares his/her expertise with trainees and faculty at all levels.
This year we have the very distinct honor of hosting William W. Hay, Jr., M.D., professor of pediatrics and director, Perinatal Research Center at the University of Colorado.
Hay is a basic/translational investigator of fetal and neonatal growth and nutrition with a focus on IUGR and diabetes. He is a national and international leader in and advocate for pediatric research, and has served in various capacities in the Society for Pediatric Research and American Academy of Pediatrics, and he is a past president of the American Pediatric Society.
Hay has trained numerous postdoctoral fellows, residents and students and has been recognized for excellence in teaching and mentorship with a number of prestigious awards. More information about Hay can be found here.
The Pediatric Science Days Research Symposium will be held all day, on Thursday, Feb. 24, and Hay will present Pediatric Grand Rounds at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25.
The event will be held both days in the Danis Auditorium at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. Hay also will moderate small group roundtables with trainees and junior faculty at which he will share his experiences and provide advice to fledgling academicians.
