Heather Love, Ph.D., of the University of Pennsylvania, will give a lecture "Practices of Description: Reading across the Humanities and the Social Sciences" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in Adorjan Hall, room 142.
The lecture is part of the department of English Faculty Research Colloquium Series.
Love is the author of Feeling Backward: Loss and the Politics of Queer History and of numerous articles about feminism, queer history, transgender studies, modernism and American studies.
In this talk she will present her latest research on "the descriptive turn" in literary studies, research that draws on the work of the sociologist Erving Goffman and the cultural theorist Bruno Latour.
The lecture will be followed by a wine reception.
All faculty and graduate students, from all departments and colleges, are welcome to attend.
