The 34th-Annual Woman of the Year Luncheon, recognizing the contributions of women to the University, will be held at noon Wednesday, April 27, in the Wool Ballroom of Busch Student Center.
The annual event is sponsored by the Women's Commission, in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action.
In a tradition which began in 1977, the awards committee of the Commission selected five "Women of the Year" from nominating letters submitted by members of the University community.
Honorees were selected for their personal commitment to the educational goals of the University, and for their unselfish giving of time and effort to the service of others. They are recognized as leaders and role models.
The title of Woman of the Year for 2011 will be awarded to:
- Kathleen (Kathy) A. Day, director of the MBA program in the John Cook School of Business
- Miriam Hallazgo, the School of Medicine SLUCare's director of marketing
- Cheryl L. Cavallo, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Physical Therapy, Doisy College
- Jacqueline A. Jackson, manager in the Department of Public Safety and Security
- Samiksha Tarun, pre-medical scholar and senior in the College of Arts and Sciences
They will be honored at an informal reception at 11:30 a.m., before the luncheon and program at noon.
Everyone in the University community is invited to attend, and individual reservations are $16, paid in advance.
Checks should be made payable to Saint Louis University, and checks or cash should be sent to the Office of the Women's Commission, Room 359, DuBourg Hall.
Reservation forms are available online at the Women's Commission website or may be requested by calling the Office of the Women's Commission at 977-2212.
Inter-departmental purchase orders cannot be accepted.
The deadline for luncheon reservations is April 20. Tables will be assigned in the order in which they are received, so early reservations are advised.
The luncheon is the second recognition event sponsored by Commission and the Affirmative Action Office annually. In December, ten university women were honored at the YWCA Leader Lunch, a tradition with the Commission since 1983.
Information about the Commission or about the luncheon may be obtained by calling 314-977-2212, Womens Commission office, or by visiting the website at wc.slu.edu.
