Reminder: Grand Bridge Closes Monday, March 14
Compton primary detour; commuters advised to seek alternate routes
The Grand Boulevard Bridge will close to traffic at 5 a.m. Monday, March 14.
The bridge is expected to be down for 14 months; the entire project is expected to be completed in 18-24 months.
The bridge will be closed from Chouteau Avenue to the I-64 off-ramp. Compton Avenue is the primary detour route. The city has posted detour signs.
The off-ramps at I-64 and Grand will remain open throughout the project, but visitors to the Medical Center are advised to select a Market Street exit to connect with Compton Avenue.
Drivers traveling on I-44 to the north end of campus are advised to exit at Vandeventer Avenue from the west or at Jefferson Avenue from east.
The MetroLink station under the bridge will be unavailable for two-to-three weeks as demolition of the bridge takes place. During that period, Metro will transport riders to and from the Union Station via the Grand bus.
The $22 million project will enhance both the safety and aesthetics of the Grand Bridge. The Metro station also will be improved.
