Top High School Students Visit for Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship WeekendEvent Details: March 24 - March 26
Some of the nation's most gifted high school students will be on campus this week for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Interview Weekend. The students will visit SLU Thursday, March 24, through Saturday, March 26, to interview for a Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.
Faculty and staff are urged to help welcome these special visitors and their families to campus.
Candidates begin arriving on Thursday, March 24, for an optional overnight stay in the residence halls.
Friday, attendees will attend a class, have lunch with current Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars and meet with academic departments. In addition, the candidates can opt to take a fun trolley tour of the city that includes the Central West End and Busch Stadium or an expansive tour of the SLU campus, including such must-see spots as the Busch Student Center and St. Francis Xavier College Church.
At 6:15 p.m., the weekend will officially kick-off with the welcome reception, giving interviewers an informal opportunity to meet the candidates. The reception will be held in the atrium of the John Cook School of Business.
Saturday, leaders from the St. Louis community as well as University alumni will join current Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars and SLU faculty and staff in interviewing the finalists. The division of enrollment and retention management would like to thank everyone who volunteered to be an interviewer.
About Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars
In order to qualify for a Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, students must have a ranking in the upper one-third of their high school class, an above average ACT or SAT score and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. In addition to these academic credentials, potential Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars must demonstrate a commitment to the promotion of diversity in our society and demonstrate leadership in the classroom, on campus and in the greater community.
