SLU's Students for Life (SFL) will host the Fifth Annual Run for Their Lives 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30, starting at the clock tower located on the West Pine Mall.
The fee is $15 for those who register before April 30, and $20 to register on the morning of the event.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Virginia D. Murphy Endowment for Pregnant and Parenting Students Assistance which was established by SFL in October 2008.
The annual run serves as a major fundraiser as SFL continues to work towards its goal of being able to offer $10,000 each year in grants to pregnant and parenting students at SLU. In the three and a half years since its creation, the fund has grown to over $65,000.
The philosophy and goal of PPSA is that no student should ever have to choose between having a child and having an education. This belief is founded on three values: education, community and support.
Prior to the establishment of the PPSA, proceeds benefited the following local crisis pregnancy centers: Our Lady's Inn, Birthright and the Pregnancy Resource Center. SFL continues to support these groups through volunteer work and publications.
Students for Life is an organization committed to upholding the fundamental right to life on the campus of Saint Louis University.
SFL at SLU won the community service award at the 2010 Students for Life of America conference for their work in the St. Louis community, including the Run for Their Lives. At the 2009 conference, SFL at SLU received the Group of the Year Award from SFLA.
