April 28, Student Health Advocates and Peer Educator Program (SHAPE) invites all faculty, staff and students to make a donation and wear jeans in honor of "Denim Day."
Denim Day has been internationally celebrated since 1999 in protest of an Italian High Court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans.
Enraged by the verdict, women of the Italian legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans to work. As news of the decision spread, so did the protest.
On April 28, universities, colleges, junior high and high schools, businesses, organizations and individuals will participate in Denim Day events. Join the campaign -- step forward take a stand against rape.
To make a donation (proceeds going to the local YWCA St. Louis Regional Sexual Assault Center) please stop by the SHAPE and UNA tabling from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in two locations, by the clock tower and the Quad area outside of Griesdeck Hall.
** While this is a university community event, we encourage all staff to consult with their supervisor before actively participating in this program.
